Delta Goodrem has finally gone and done it — she’s married her longtime partner Matthew Copley, and honestly, it sounds like the dreamiest setup you could imagine.
The pair said their vows in Malta, which is the same place Matthew proposed last year, and ugh I love a good full-circle moment.
According to New Idea, the wedding was a bit of a marathon, stretching over several days and featuring a who’s who of Delta’s inner circle — her mum Lea, brother Trent, TV presenter Renee Bargh, and bestie Danielle Cox all made the trip, along with a few other familiar faces including TV host Richard Wilkins and former Nine journalist Airlie Walsh.
If you’ve been following along, you’ll know Delta’s always kept things pretty low-key with Matthew. They’ve been together for more than seven years, but she’s never been one to overshare about her love life. She told Australian Women’s Weekly last year that Matthew is not just her guitarist but her best friend, and she’s “very lucky” to have him.
There’s been the occasional Instagram post — like when she announced their engagement with a simple “My best friend asked me to marry him” — but mostly, these two have done things their way.
Malta isn’t just a pretty backdrop for the ‘gram, either. Matthew’s family is from there, and Delta’s talked before about how a lot of her band and crew have Maltese roots, so it was a bit of a homecoming for the whole crew.
The wedding itself was apparently two years in the making, with guests receiving detailed schedules in advance, which is honestly the kind of organisation we can only aspire to.
Delta managed to squeeze in her Sydney hen’s party back in April before jetting off for the big event according to the Daily Mail, and she’s also just wrapped up a run of UK shows to mark 20 years since her album Mistaken Identity. And, in case you missed it, she and Matthew have even launched their own label, ATLED Records (yep, that’s Delta backwards), and dropped a new single together called “Back to Your Heart”.
So, Delta Goodrem is officially a married woman, Malta is now the unofficial capital of romance, and the guest list was stacked with friends, family, and a few TV regulars. Congrats to Delta and Matthew!
