Alongside the new map, jets, and weapons, season War Ablaze adds a new permanent mode to Delta Force: Team Deathmatch. It’s a smaller, infantry-focused mode, with the sole objective of eliminating the enemy team.
This isn’t the first time Team Jade has introduced a new mode to Delta Force, going back to Hot Zone from Season Starfall, which is largely forgotten by the playerbase, and in a Q&A with the game design director, Ricky Liao, Dot Esports asked about the team’s plans to integrate TDM into the rest of the game to avoid the same hapenning again.
“We’ve learned from our experiences launching new modes in the past, including the Hot Zone mode you mentioned. We understand that for a mode to have longevity, it must be well integrated into the entire game,” he said. TDM will be a part of the game’s core loop, including things like events and challenges, ensuring it’s an “integral and rewarding” part of the experience.
Team Jade hasn’t forgotten about the Hot Zone either. While there are no major updates for the mode in War Ablaze, the developer wishes to “inject new life” into this and other modes, and is actively evaluating the best approach. The same was said regarding the return of Warfare night maps back from the season Eclipse Vigil: “We can’t give a specific return date, but we want to ensure that when they do return, they come back in a more refined and interesting form. Stay tuned!” Liao said.
TDM’s announcement sparked multiple ideas regarding other potential modes for Delta Force, from 5v5 Search and Destroy to many others. In response, Ricky mentioned that the team will use the community’s reaction to TDM as a basis for planning future modes. The goal is to provide a wider variety of combat options, and TDM is the first step towards it.
