Jan. 13--A Delta Air Lines jet has landed safely after a midair scare forced an emergency return to Los Angeles International Airport.
Carrying 152 people, Delta Flight 2116 landed at LAX just after 9:30 a.m. after circling above Southern California to burn fuel as a precaution, the FAA said.

Emergency response crews were prepared for the landing, airport officials said.
The Boeing 757 departed LAX at about 8:30 a.m. with 146 passengers and a flight crew of six, heading to Minneapolis, officials said. But the flight "experienced a problem" after departure, Los Angeles Fire Department officials said.
Los Angeles World Airport spokeswoman Amanda Parsons said the crew reported the plane had a mechanical issue.
Delta was working to make accommodations for the flight's grounded passengers while mechanics examined the aircraft, airline spokeswoman Lindsay McDuff said.
"Safety is always Delta's top priority, and [the airline] apologizes to customers for the inconvenience," she said.
