Big Four: Consultancy firm Deloitte has announced it is to create up to 200 jobs in Ireland, reports RTÉ news. The company will create 150 graduate recruitment positions in the Cork, Dublin and Limerick offices. A further 30 jobs for technology consultants will be available in Dublin. And, there are also a number of advisory roles available in the firm's audit, consulting and enterprise risk departments. Most of the jobs are expected to be available next year, but some positions are being filled this year.
Digital: The BBC Academy and Arts Council England have announced a joint initiative to help arts organisations develop digital skills. The new partnership will launch a series of masterclasses and workshops covering skills such as digital marketing and communications, commissioning and producing film and web content, archiving and rights issues. Later this year there will also be a forum where artists, arts organisations and broadcasters can discuss the opportunities digital presents, while also identifying the skills needed across the sector.
Healthcare: A new centre offering specialised care to people with dementia will create 100 jobs in Wrexham, reports the BBC. Recruitment is currently underway for staff at the £4m Bodlondeb unit at the Pendine Park residential centre, with the majority of roles being for qualified nurses and care practitioners.
Food and drink: Pub chain Wetherspoon has announced plans to expand in the West Midlands, creating around 200 jobs. The company says it has identified four sites for new premises, with each new watering hole expected to provide around 50 new jobs. These will include roles for bar staff, management, kitchen workers and front-of-house staff. According to the Express & Star, the company is looking to open 250 pubs over the next five years nationwide.
Banking: Plans by Virgin Money to make inroads into the British banking sector — via a new retail banking division — will lead to 200 new jobs in the Scottish capital, reports New Statesman. The new jobs will be created in Edinburgh, beginning in March and April of next year, and will bring the company's workforce to a total of 500.
Apprenticeships: Nissan has announced it is creating 75 advanced apprenticeships at its Sunderland factory over the next five years. According to Recruiter, the car maker will be recruiting trainee maintenance technicians and administration assistants through a combination of job fairs, newspaper advertisements, its website and information sessions at schools. A spokesman from the company told the magazine that although a job at the end of the scheme is not guaranteed, historically candidates who complete their training have been offered positions at the company.
Retail: The expansion of a new off-licence chain could create more than 300 jobs across Scotland, reports the BBC. Paisley-based BrandInvestGroup is planning to open about 50 stores in the next two years, in addition to 15 stores already trading. Six of the new stores are expected to open their doors to customers before the end of October, including branches in Currie, Edinburgh, Kelso and Lochgilphead — and 160 jobs will be created in the remainder of 2010, according to STV.
