Artist Ken Sobajima of Toride, Ibaraki Prefecture, has begun a direct delivery service called "DeliveryArt" for artwork that he sells online.
Sobajima cannot hold solo exhibitions for his work due to the coronavirus outbreak, and plans to continue this limited-time-only service through June 21. He hopes to see his creations in the hands of many customers.
Sobajima will donate 10% of sales to organizations that support medical institutions.
After studying painting at Tokyo University of the Arts, Sobajima split his time between working on murals, ???including one featured on walls under JR train rails,??? and selling his work at solo exhibitions.
However, he had no income for the month of April, as he was unable to hold exhibitions. Sobajima then came up with the idea of selling his work online and delivering it to the customer's home.
He carries his work in a bag similar to those used by delivery professionals. Within Toride, he transports his work by bicycle. For orders to be delivered in a 50-kilometer radius outside of the city, he travels either by motorcycle or by car.
