Delivery man and dad-of-four dies on first day at work after ninth-floor lift fall

A man died on his first day at work after delivering an order to a ninth-floor flat before stepping into an empty elevator shaft.

The tragic death of the father-of-four was reported in Adana, Turkey.

According to national newspaper Ensonhaber, Nail Polat, 47, had just started working at a newly opened grocery store.

He had gone to deliver a trolley full of goods to the house of Murat Akkol.

But when he went to the elevator after he delivered the order, he entered backwards with the trolley - but the lift was on a higher floor, and he plunged to his death.

An ambulance and police team were dispatched to the scene after the residents of the apartment reported the situation.

The health team reportedly determined that Mr Polat, who fell from a height of about 131 feet, died at the scene.

His body was removed by firefighters after the investigation carried out at the scene and was taken to the morgue of the Adana Forensic Medicine Institute.

The police continue to investigate the incident.

There is no further information on how the doors of the elevator were able to open if the elevator was not there.
