Delivery driver threatened with knife in terrifying robbery before van stolen

A delivery driver was threatened at knifepoint before his van was stolen in a terrifying robbery. Detectives are investigating the incident that took place at around 3.15pm on March 5 in Crewe.

Police have revealed that the delivery driver had parked his white Ford transit van on Claughton Avenue to deliver a parcel to a nearby address.

As he returned to his van, he was approached by an unknown man who threatened him with a knife before violently demanding that he handed over his keys. The victim complied, with the offender driving off from the scene.

Police believe that the vehicle may have been in convoy with a second white transit van. The stolen vehicle was later found a car park on Merebrook Walk.

The suspect is described as a white man, around 25 to 30 years old, of slim build, around 5’ 11” tall, with blond hair and a long blonde beard. At the time of the incident, he was wearing black trousers, a black jacket and a black woollen hat.

Police are now appealing for witnesses or anyone who may hold information about the armed robbery to come forward. CCTV and dashcam enquires are also continuing in a bid to trace the offender.

Detective Constable Thomas Towe, of Cheshire Police said: “This investigation is in its early stages and we’re keen to hear from anyone who was in the Cloughton Avenue area at the time of the incident and may have witnessed anything suspicious.

“The same goes for anyone who thinks they may have seen the vehicle being dumped in the Merebrook Walk area. We’re particularly keen to hear from anyone with any dashcam or CCTV footage of the incident.

“We’re also aware that a number of residents now have ring doorbells, so please, if you live in the Cloughton Avenue or Merebrook Walk area, review it to see if anything has been captured that may aid our investigation.”

Anyone with information or video footage that may help the ongoing investigation should contact Cheshire Police on 101, or at https://www.cheshire.police.uk/tua, quoting IML 1492137. Information can also be reported anonymously, via Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.
