A man was dragged almost 200 yards along a residential street after chasing a thief who stole his van, witnesses said.

Residents in Pelham Place, a crescent in South Kensington, said “complete chaos” broke out as the Citroen Relay sped away at lunchtime on Saturday.

Onlookers shouted for the van to stop after spotting the man beneath it.

One woman said: “Everybody was out on the streets shouting at the driver, telling him to stop. He leapt out of the van and ran away.

“Another man was stuck under the van. There was blood everywhere.”

Another resident said: “Somebody had tried to steal the man’s van, then the driver ran back to try and stop it and he was then run over... he was speeding off like a mad man. It was very upsetting.”

Police said the victim’s injuries are not life-threatening. Enquiries are ongoing.
