Delivery driver in Wishaw hospital with serious injuries after vehicle is stolen

A delivery van driver is in a stable condition in hospital after being injured as his vehicle was stolen in an early hours attack in Harthill.

The man was found lying in the road at about 5.40am on Saturday in West Main Street.

He was taken to University Hospital Wishaw with serious injuries.

The van, a blue Iveco, was then used in an attempted raid at a store on Ochilview Square, Armadale, at around 6.10am.

It was later found abandoned in the town’s Forrester Road.

Detective Sergeant Derrick Lunan said: “The van driver was seriously injured during the theft and we would like to speak to anyone who saw what happened as well as any suspicious activity beforehand.

“We are also keen to speak to anyone who saw this van being driven around at that time in the morning and after the incident at the store before it was then abandoned.

“If you have information that will help our inquiries please call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 0660 for the theft and 0697 for the attempted housebreaking, both of Saturday January 11.

“Or call the charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
