Delivery chaos for Yodel after flatbed truck blocks Ayrshire depot

A giant flatbed truck has been blocking the entrance and exit to one of Ayrshire's biggest delivery firms for almost 24 hours.

The HGV has been parked across the the Kilmarnock depot with delivery drivers unable to gain access to the site to retrieve parcels in vans.

The Southhook Road facility, just off Western Road, was swarming with Yodel officials this afternoon as they scrambled to resolve the situation.

No official reason has been given for the blockade at the depot.

Yodel said they have urgently restructured their network to minimise delays as a result of the blockage.

Earlier in the day, Yodel vans could be seen lining Munro Avenue, round the corner from the facility just before Western Road.

Shortly after 2pm it appeared as if Yodel had regained access to the site after part of the fence was removed.

The delivery firm is believed to be leaving its current site in the near future.

It's understood that police were contacted to attend the scene yesterday also.

A Yodel spokesman said: “We want to reassure our customers that we’re doing everything we can to try and resolve this situation and have urgently restructured our network to minimise service delays.

"We intend to prioritise any impacted parcels and would like to thank our customers for their patience and understanding.”

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Police were called around 1.30 pm on Thursday, May 20, following a complaint about a vehicle causing an obstruction at the gates to a yard on Southhook Road, Kilmarnock.

"Officers attended and advice and assistance was given."
