Deliveroo riders in major UK cities will wear missing person posters on their food delivery bags to try to help find them in time for Christmas.

In December, the food delivery giant is putting the faces of missing people on the bags of more than 500 riders in London, Manchester, Birmingham and Bristol.

It said that with Deliveroo riders being a “consistent” presence on the streets of UK cities, the scheme would increase the likelihood of people being found.

Deliveroo said: “A person is reported missing every 90 seconds in the UK – and the festive season can often be the hardest time for families and friends who are missing a loved one.

“Deliveroo riders are a consistent presence on our streets. By providing more visibility for individuals who are missing, our riders can play an even more important role in their local areas and help make a real difference to the communities in which they live and work.”

The company has partnered with Missing People for the scheme. It will also encourage customers to donate to the charity through the Deliveroo app during December.

Jo Youle, Missing People's chief executive, said: "Deliveroo will help us to reunite missing people with their families this December and will be able reach people and places Missing People cannot reach.

"The money raised by Deliveroo and their customers will help us to continue to search across the UK for missing people and support the estimated one million people who are affected by a loved one's disappearance."
