Deliveroo reveals Belfast's most popular dish during lockdown

People across the UK are celebrating, as thousands of restaurants, pubs and hairdressers have been given the go-ahead to reopen after three long months of staying in.

For most cities, the end of lockdown is finally in sight - so Deliveroo has taken a look back over the past 12 weeks to see what people in the UK have been eating (and drinking) whilst staying home.

Their research, revealed today, shows that burgers were the most popular lockdown dish across the board, making up 21% of top choices. Other dishes such as fish & chips and steak pasties also ranked high.

The data also showed that burritos proved the most popular dish in Belfast, as well as in cities such as Aberdeen and Nottingham.

It's shouldn't come as much of a surprise then that the restaurant which saw the most Deliveroo deliveries throughout lockdown in Belfast was, of course, local favourite Boojum .

Yep, while many other cities across the UK turned to the big fast-food chains for their takeaways, Belfast's Boojum cravings are still as strong as ever.

The Mexican Burrito Bar, which has five restaurants in the city, has become an undisputed favourite in the city over the last number of years, with many flocking to its branches in the city centre and on Botanic Avenue. They even launched a plant-based dish at the start of this year.

Speaking about the UK wide results today, Arabella Jenkins at Deliveroo said: “The nationwide lockdown meant daily routines were turned upside down and inside out. It’s no surprise then that Deliveroo order data over these months has revealed changes in what, when and how customers were eating.

"In case Brits were wondering if they were alone in their cravings, Deliveroo has revealed the most popular dishes and interesting eating trends observed in UK cities, from Bournemouth to Blackpool."
