Deliveroo issue update after change in restaurant rules

Deliveroo have issued an update to customers following Boris Johnson's announcement that restaurants and pubs must close at 10pm from tomorrow (Thursday, September 24).

In an address to the nation yesterday (Tuesday, September 22), the Prime Minister announced that areas of the hospitality sector - including restaurants and pubs - must close at 10pm.

The food delivery service has reassured customers that they will still be able to have food delivered after 10pm. They have, however, made some changes.

In an email sent around to those who use the service, Deliveroo said: "Yesterday, following an increase in cases of COVID-19, the Prime Minister announced new lockdown restrictions across England.

"This includes restaurants, bars and pubs having to close after 10pm from this Thursday for the foreseeable future.

"However, the Prime Minister has explicitly said that delivery services can remain available throughout this period, which means you can continue to order from your favourite local restaurants and grocery shops whenever you want - even after 10pm.

"We’re here to deliver for you, just as we’re here to deliver for our restaurant partners who we want to support now more than ever."

What has changed?

The brand have now introduced 'mandatory contact-free delivery' as well as 'mandatory contact-free pick up at restaurants' to help with social distancing.

This means that when having an order delivered the food will either be left at your door or a location that you have specified.

What's more, they have also now made the Food Standard Agency's hygiene ratings available in the app so that you are able to see the rating that your chosen restaurant has received.

They also go on to advise all customers to 'wash your hands thoroughly as soon as you've received your food order and before you eat it.'
