Delighted students celebrate Leaving Cert results at Dublin school

The Leaving Cert results are finally out and students nationwide are celebrating their long awaited results.

Students at Beneavin de la Salle College in Finglas spoke to Dublin Live about their results and their future plans, which include studying in areas such as journalism and engineering. Most of the students were happy with their grades and shared their advice for approaching the dreaded exams for incoming Leaving Cert students.

“It’s a lot of stress. It worked out for me but it might not be the same for everyone. Don’t leave everything to the last second like I did- try and study a few months in advance,” Ryan Dunne, who achieved 374 points in his exams. Students also revealed they plan to hit the town tonight to celebrate their hard-earned results in venues such as The Academy and Tramline.

Kyle O’ Neill is hoping to study journalism and is confident that he can secure his college place based on his results. He plans to go to The Academy tonight, but first he will be heading to Dalymount Park to watch Shamrock Rovers versus Bohemians.

“I’m looking forward to a good night tonight- hopefully the boys I’m going with are as happy as I am with their results,” he revealed.

Meanwhile, the school’s guidance counsellor said that students unhappy with today’s results shouldn’t despair as there are always options to get to their chosen path. He encouraged students entering sixth year to be mindful of post leaving certificate courses as a valid strategy.

“It’s a great day for our students and I want to congratulate them. It’s important not to get down if results don’t go your way. There are always other ways of getting to college or where you want,” Dave said.

Over 60,000 students received their results this morning, which were available online from 10am as well as on school premises. The HSE urged parents to discuss personal safety with their children ahead of exam results as many students head to nightclubs for celebrations.
