Deliberately lit fire in Glasgow tenement close sparks police investigation

Police enquiries are underway after a fire was deliberately started in a tenement close in Govan.

Emergency services raced to the scene at Shaw Street in the Govan area of the city at around 1.50pm this afternoon (January 15).

Pictures from the scene showed a police cordon in place alongside two fire engines and an ambulance in attendance.

Thankfully nobody was injured or was required to be evacuated due to the incident.

Police say the fire is being being treated as wilful and enquiries are ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 1.50pm on Saturday, 15 January, 2022 officers were called to a report of a fire within a common close on Shaw Street in Glasgow.

"Nobody was injured or was required to be evacuated. The fire is being treated as wilful and enquiries are ongoing.”
