Suicide pact: Woman, two daughters suffocate to death in Vasant Vihar flat

NEW DELHI: A woman and her two children were found dead under mysterious circumstances at their residence in southwest Delhi's Vasant Vihar area on Saturday evening. Police are probing all possible angles.

The station house officer along with other staff reached the spot. "The doors and windows were closed. We managed to open the door and found that a gas cylinder was partially opened and there was a suicide note," the officer added.

Police added that on checking another room, three bodies were found lying on the bed.

The deceased were identified as Manju, and her two daughters Anshika and Anku. According to the police, the woman must have been around 50 years old and both her daughters were adults.

Manju's husband passed away last April due to Covid-19. Since then, she was supposedly under depression, police said.

The woman was bedridden due to illness, they added.

Cops also found some burning candles in the room.

"Prima facie, it appears that they died due to suffocation, however both angles - suicide or accidental death - are being probed. A postmortem will be conducted on Sunday," an officer said.

Police said they received a call regarding the incident around 9 pm.

"The caller told us that house number 207 at Vasant Apartment in Vasant Vihar was locked from inside and the occupants inside the house were not responding or opening the door," deputy commissioner of police (southwest) Manoj C said.
