Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) residents may get some relief from the ongoing heat as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted rain, thunderstorms and strong winds on Saturday, June 20. The weather department said capital may experience light showers in the afternoon or evening but maximum temperatures will not see any significant drop in next 24 hours.
The likely change of weather conditions may come with pre-monsoon activity after weeks of intense summer heat which is expected to bring temporary comfort to parts of Delhi-NCR. The IMD has predicted partly cloudy skies in the morning and chances of very light to light rain and thunderstorms later in the day.
Delhi weather forecast today
As per the IMD forecast, the maximum temperature in Delhi is likely to be between 37 degrees Celsius and 39 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature could be between 25 degrees Celsius and 27 degrees Celsius. The weather department has predicted strong winds at 40-50 kmph with gusts up to 60 kmph in some places. The minimum temperature may fall by about 1 degree Celsius and rise to nearly 2 degrees Celsius in the next 24 hours. Pre-monsoon showers and thunderstorms are likely to continue over Delhi and adjoining areas till June 21, the IMD said. Local weather systems and western disturbances are affecting the weather and are causing relatively lower daytime temperatures.
Noida, Gurugram and Ghaziabad weather today
Several parts of Delhi-NCR, including Noida, Gurugram and Ghaziabad, are expected to see partly cloudy skies along with rain and thunderstorm activity.
The maximum temperature in these areas is likely to remain between 37 degrees Celsius and 40 degrees Celsius, while nighttime temperatures may settle around 28-29 degrees Celsius.
The IMD has predicted that rain and thunderstorm activity could continue across the NCR region until Sunday. The impact of fresh western disturbances and local weather conditions is expected to keep temperatures relatively comfortable during the day.
Maharashtra weather update
Meanwhile, people across Maharashtra are waiting for monsoon showers as several regions continue to face water-related challenges. The IMD has said that southwest monsoon activity is expected to begin progressing in the state from June 23.
The weather department has not confirmed which part of Maharashtra will receive the first showers. However, rainfall intensity is expected to increase from June 22.
The arrival of monsoon rains is being closely watched across the state as residents await relief from rising temperatures and water shortages.
