Delhi Weather Today, July 11: Rain alert for Delhi, Noida, Gurugram; IMD warns of heavy showers

Delhi-NCR woke up to pleasant weather on Friday, with cloudy skies, cool winds and lower humidity after two days of intense rainfall. However, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast another spell of heavy rain across parts of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, while rainfall activity is expected to ease in Mumbai and several regions of Maharashtra.

The IMD has issued an orange alert for Delhi, warning of heavy rainfall during the day. According to the weather department, the intensity of rainfall over the national capital is likely to decrease from July 11 onwards.

Delhi-NCR weather forecast

According to the IMD, Noida is expected to record a maximum temperature of 35 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 25 degrees Celsius on Friday. The forecast predicts a partly cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers.

In Gurugram, the weather department has forecast a maximum temperature of 28 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 27 degrees Celsius, along with a partly cloudy sky and one or two spells of rain or thundershowers.

Red alert for several districts in Uttar Pradesh

The IMD has issued a red alert for Muzaffarnagar, Bijnor, Moradabad, Bareilly, Pilibhit, Badaun, Sambhal and Jyotiba Phule Nagar, indicating the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall.

Orange alerts have also been issued for Sitapur, Hardoi, Bulandshahr, Saharanpur, Kushinagar, Lakhimpur Kheri, Shahjahanpur and Hapur.

Rainfall likely to weaken across Maharashtra

Rainfall activity is expected to reduce across Maharashtra on Friday, with light showers forecast over most parts of the state.

However, the IMD has placed Pune and Satara under an orange alert. Yellow alerts remain in effect for Raigad, Kolhapur, Buldhana, Akola, Amravati, Nagpur, Chandrapur and Gadchiroli, with residents advised to remain cautious.

Monsoon completes advance across India

The weather department said the Southwest Monsoon has advanced into the remaining parts of the north Arabian Sea, Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab.

With this, the monsoon covered the entire country on July 9, one day later than its normal arrival date of July 8, completing its seasonal advance across India.

Assam issues advisory amid rain and thunderstorm forecast

The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) has urged people to take precautions after the IMD forecast widespread rainfall and thunderstorms across Guwahati and other parts of the state from Friday and over the next few days.

According to the advisory, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, spells of moderate rainfall and isolated heavy rain are likely over the next two to three days, particularly in Guwahati and the southern and central districts of the state.

The ASDMA warned that the weather conditions could lead to waterlogging, flash floods, slow vehicular movement and an increased risk of localised landslides in vulnerable areas.

Schools remain closed in Himachal districts

Following persistent rainfall in parts of Himachal Pradesh, all government and private educational institutions, along with Anganwadis, remained closed in the Sirmaur and Solan districts on Friday.

The Meteorological Centre in Shimla has forecast heavy rainfall across several parts of the state and warned of possible landslides, flash floods, uprooting of trees and road blockades.
