Police identified the accused as Rajesh (43), a resident of Kasturba Nagar. His wife and two daughters have already been arrested and were in judicial custody. “One Darshan Singh was also arrested. He is the owner of the autorickshaw that was used to abduct the victim from Karkardooma,” the officer said.

Deputy commissioner of police (Shahdara) R Sathiyasundaram said that so far, 20 people have been apprehended in the case. “As many as 16 adults and four juveniles have been apprehended,” he said.

On January 26, the woman was abducted and confined to a room, beaten up and sexually assaulted by a group of men and women in the Kasturba Nagar. The victim in her complaint had told police that she was abducted from Karkardooma village. The accused took her to Kasturba Nagar, where she was sexually assaulted, her hair was chopped and she was forced to wear a garland of slippers.
