Delhi: Teen jabs up by almost 60% on Day 2

NEW DELHI: While day one of the vaccination for beneficiaries in the 15 to 17 years age group saw 21,010 teens get their first dose of Covaxin, the number jumped by nearly 60% on Tuesday, with 33,242 teens getting inoculated.

Unlike day one, when the start was slow and only a handful of teens had come to get their vaccinations by noon, more than 7,200 youngsters had got jabbed by 12.30pm on Tuesday. The total number of beneficiaries who have been administered the first dose against Covid-19 stood at 54,252 on Tuesday evening.

“As teens have classes in the morning, the number of beneficiaries in this age group went up in the afternoon,” said a Delhi government official on condition of anonymity. “The estimated number of beneficiaries in this category is around 10 lakh and if the pace of vaccination remains the same, we will be able to administer the first dose to the entire cohort by the end of this month,” he said.

As per Delhi government data, out of the more than 33,000 beneficiaries vaccinated till 5.30pm on Monday, the highest numbers were seen at the North East district —6,237. This district had witnessed the highest participation on Monday, with 3,687 teens getting vaccinated by 6pm.

Second was the South West district (4,402), with the highest number of government vaccination centres — 21. The other two revenue districts out of the total 11 recorded more than 3,000 inoculations till 5.30 pm include South East (3,477) and South (3,061) districts. The East district was close to the tally with 2,907 doses administered, followed by New Delhi (2,653), North West (2,308), Shahdara (2,151), West (2,069) and Central (2,028) districts.

On the other hand, the North district was the only revenue district that recorded less than 2,000 vaccinations in the same period on Tuesday – 1,886.
