Delhi state billiards and snooker championship from June 30

NEW DELHI: The 47th edition of the Delhi state billiards and snooker championship will begin in the national capital from June 30, the organisers announced on Saturday.

The tournament will be played at the Baba Billiards Academy in Nirman Vihar. The championship will feature events in sub junior boys, junior snooker, junior billiards, senior snooker and billiards and Masters snooker along with 6-Red snooker, stated Delhi Billiards and Snooker Association (DBSA) secretary Ravi Tandon.

The state championship is being organised in the month of June-July considering the junior and sub-junior entries as the schools and colleges remain closed for summer break.

The championship carries a total prize money of Rs 1.5 lakh, informed Manmeet Singh – tournament director. The last date to submit entries is June 20 and the tournament will be held under the aegis of Billiards and Snooker Federation of India (BSFI), said Ayush Bansal, organising secretary.

The winners and runners-up in different categories will represent Delhi in the billiards and snooker Nationals, to be held later this year. The tournament has already attracted a high number of entries with the organisers expressing happiness over the overwhelming response.

"Cue sport has been included as a competitive discipline at the Doha Asian Games in 2030. It is our responsibility to keep promoting this sport so that we could be able to nurture future talent for a strong representation at the Games," said DBSA president Vijay Goel.
