Delhi Rain Today: Weather may change as IMD issues yellow alert for Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad and Faridabad

After days of relentless heat across New Delhi and nearby NCR cities, residents may finally see some relief later this week as rain, thunderstorms and dust storms are expected to sweep across the region. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi continued to remain under intense heatwave-like conditions on May 25, with temperatures hovering close to 43°C–45°C in several areas. However, weather conditions are expected to change gradually from this evening onwards, with light rain, thunderstorms and strong gusty winds likely across parts of Delhi-NCR.

Delhi Weather Today: Rain And Dust Storm Likely By Evening

According to the IMD latest forecast, the capital is expected to witness:

  • Very light rain or drizzle
  • Thunderstorms and lightning
  • Dust storm activity
  • Strong winds reaching 40–60 kmph

The sky, which remained mainly clear during the afternoon, is likely to turn partly cloudy by evening. Several parts of Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad and Faridabad could experience sudden gusty winds and isolated showers later tonight.

Heatwave Conditions To Continue Till Mid-Week

Despite chances of rain, Delhi-NCR is expected to remain extremely hot over the next two days.

Tuesday, May 26

  • Maximum temperature: 43°C–45°C
  • Mainly clear sky
  • Heatwave conditions likely in isolated places
  • Strong winds reaching up to 40 kmph during daytime
Wednesday, May 27
  • Another very hot day expected
  • Temperatures may again touch 45°C
  • Dry weather with gusty winds likely

Bigger Weather Change Expected From May 28

Weather conditions are expected to shift more noticeably from Thursday onwards.

Thursday, May 28

Delhi may witness:

  • Partly cloudy skies
  • Light rain and thunderstorms during evening/night
  • Lightning activity
  • Wind speeds reaching up to 60 kmph

Cooler Days Ahead For Delhi-NCR

The biggest relief is expected from May 29 onwards, when temperatures are likely to dip significantly.

Friday, May 29

  • Maximum temperature may drop to 35°C–37°C
  • Cloudy skies expected
  • Light rain and thunderstorms likely
Saturday, May 30
  • Rain activity may continue across NCR
  • Gusty winds between 40–50 kmph expected
  • Pleasant weather compared to earlier in the week
Sunday, May 31

  • Cloudy skies likely to continue
  • Scattered rain and thunderstorms possible
  • Temperatures expected to stay below recent heatwave levels

Delhi Residents Advised To Stay Cautious

Weather officials have advised residents to stay careful during dust storms and thunderstorm activity later this week.

People are being advised to:

  • Avoid standing under trees during storms
  • Drive carefully during low visibility conditions
  • Stay hydrated amid ongoing heatwave conditions
  • Secure loose outdoor objects before strong winds arrive

For many Delhiites battling extreme temperatures over the past week, the expected rain and cooler winds could finally bring some much-needed relief.
