Delhi: Rain and VIP curbs make traffic crawl

NEW DELHI: Traffic was affected in several parts of the city owing to rain as well as detours made by Delhi Traffic Police for Gurpurab. In the evening, traffic was affected in central Delhi as restrictions were put in place for the dinner hosted by PM Narendra Modi for outgoing President Ram Nath Kovind at Hotel Asoka.

Snarls were witnessed at Wazirabad and Kashmere Gate ISBT as several two-wheelers had taken shelter under the bridge to save themselves from rain. Later, rain and waterlogging resulted in snarls at New Rohtak Road on both carriageways from Anand Parbat to Zakhira. Heavy traffic was also reported from IGI T2 and T3 towards Mehram Nagar owing to construction work.

In the morning and evening, a large number of people had gathered at Bangla Sahib Gurdwara, which caused congestion. Traffic police had issued an advisory on Thursday for the event.

Traffic police also tweeted from time to time informing people about the diversions. “Obstruction in traffic on both carriageways at GK-II near M-Block market due to uprooting of a tree. Commuters are advised to take diversion from Inder Mohan Bhardwaj Marg and avoid gurudwara road in GK-II,” it wrote on Twitter.

“Kindly avoid Mother Teresa Crescent, Teen Murti Marg, Kautilya Marg, South Avenue Road and Kamal Atta Turk Marg from 7.45pm to 8.30pm,” traffic police tweeted regarding the dinner hosted by the PM.
