Delhi Police arrests 14 cyber fraudsters from Jamtara in Jharkhand

NEW DELHI: The cyber cell of Delhi Police arrested 14 cyber fraudsters from Jamtara in Jharkhand on Tuesday. They were operating a big racket in Jamtara, Deoghar, Giridih, & Jamui.

"We have launched 'Cyber Prahar' part 2, targetting India's hotspot of cybercrimes," Anyesh Roy, deputy superintendent of police, Delhi Police Cyber Cell said according to ANI.

Masterminds of the cybercrime racket are Altaf Ansari alias 'Rockstar' & Gulam Ansari alias 'Master Ji'.

Altaf has so many callers under him.

He keeps people at the place from where he operates to keep an eye on any possible police movement.

The accused primarily used to commit UPI payment-related frauds.

These fraudsters induce victims to make payment through UPI by impersonating themselves or using technology in the name of KYC, or blocking bank account or SIM cards, said Anyesh Roy.

According to police, these fraudsters have increased the usage of technology in the recent past.

Earlier, they used to call victims randomly and ask for bank details.

They no longer use this method.

They make temporary websites and send bulk messages containing short URLs.

These 14 arrested fraudsters are linked to 36 cases reported on the National Cybercrime Reporting portal from nine states.

They cheated approximately Rs 1.2 crore in these 36 cases.

They admitted to cheating four-five people daily.
