Delhi: Over 150 cases filed against AAP MLAs, MPs but no evidence found, says Kalkaji MLA Atishi Marlena

NEW DELHI: Launching a scathing attack on BJP following the lieutenant governor’s recommendation to CBI to investigate “procedural lapses” in the implementation of Delhi Excise Policy, AAP on Friday said the saffron party was on a “witch hunt” against them.

Several AAP functionaries came down heavily on the BJP-led central government alleging that they were being targeted and framed in false cases.

Kalkaji MLA Atishi alleged that Prime Minister Narenda Modi had “lost his sleep” ever since AAP won with a thumping majority in Punjab.

“Because of his fear of Arvind Kejriwal, PM Modi has tasked his leaders and ministers to go on a witch hunt against AAP and prevent its growth. BJP is accusing deputy CM Manish Sisodia of causing a loss to the exchequer, while the new excise policy has generated a profit of Rs 1,300 crore in just four months. Delhi government earned Rs 5,446 crore compared with Rs 4,109 crore in 2019-20,” Atishi claimed.

She alleged that the Centre had filed more than 150 cases against AAP ministers and MLAs, but no incriminating evidence was found against them.

“After arresting Satyendar Jain, the Enforcement Directorate said in court that he was not an accused. No evidence was found even after probing 400 files of Delhi government. Jain has been in jail for two months now, but ED hasn’t been able to file a chargesheet against him,” said Atishi.

Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh alleged that the central agencies had failed to bring back fugitive offenders who had looted thousands of crores, but the BJP government only knew how to harass and humiliate Sisodia and Jain who “gave an education and health model to the country”.

“They have been registering false cases against Delhi government. BJP gives ludicrous arguments on fake cases, which are devoid of any logic. We will expose BJP in front of the whole country. All cases filed against AAP MLAs are baseless and 42 legislators who were sent to prison were acquitted by the court,” claimed Singh.

AAP’s chief spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj said there was apprehension after the party’s victory in Punjab polls that there would be investigations against every minister of Delhi government by CBI, ED and income tax department.

“The PM and BJP are terrified of Kejriwal’s growing popularity in the country. The investigation is being done at the behest of the central government. Kejriwal has already said that after Jain, there would be an attempt to implicate Sisodia. All officers have been engaged to find anything, real or fake, against Delhi ministers,” Bharadwaj said.
