Delhi, Noida, Gurgaon, Ghaziabad rain forecast today: IMD predicts rain, thunderstorms, strong winds and increasing rainfall activity till July 9

Residents across Delhi-NCR may need to keep umbrellas handy over the next few days as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a gradual increase in rainfall activity across the region.

According to the latest weather outlook, Delhi, Noida, Gurugram and Ghaziabad are expected to witness cloudy skies, intermittent showers, thunderstorms and gusty winds as monsoon conditions strengthen over northwestern India. Weather officials have indicated that rainfall activity is likely to become more widespread from July 6 onwards and continue through July 9.

Rainfall activity set to increase across Delhi-NCR

The IMD's latest forecast suggests that Delhi and its neighbouring cities will experience scattered rain initially before transitioning to more widespread rainfall over the coming days.

The change is being driven by active monsoon conditions over northwestern India, which are expected to support the development of rain-bearing systems across the region.

With increased moisture availability and favourable atmospheric conditions, weather experts expect more frequent spells of rain, especially during the afternoon and evening hours.

IMD forecasts thunderstorms and gusty winds

Along with rainfall, residents can also expect thunderstorm activity and strong winds in several parts of Delhi-NCR.

"Cloudy conditions will prevail, and associated thunderstorm activity is also expected. Light thunderstorm activity is expected with wind speeds ranging from 30-40 kmph and gusting up to 50-60 kmph. Rainfall activity is likely to be on the higher side from tomorrow," IMD scientist Akhil Srivastava told news agency PTI.

The gusty winds accompanying thunderstorms may temporarily reduce visibility and lead to localized disruptions in traffic movement.

Delhi weather forecast

Delhi is expected to remain under generally cloudy skies during the next few days. Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is likely at several locations. The city may also witness brief periods of intense showers, particularly during evening and nighttime hours.

The continued cloud cover is expected to keep daytime temperatures relatively lower than what is typically experienced during early July.

Noida weather forecast

Noida is likely to witness cloudy weather with intermittent rain spells through the week.

Thunderstorms and gusty winds may accompany some of the showers, especially as rainfall activity increases from Sunday onwards. Waterlogging may occur in low-lying areas during periods of heavier rainfall. Commuters are advised to plan their travel accordingly during peak traffic hours.

Gurugram weather forecast

Gurugram is also expected to receive regular rain showers over the coming days. The city may experience thunderstorms, lightning activity and gusty winds reaching up to 50-60 kmph during stronger weather episodes. Cloudy conditions are likely to persist for much of the forecast period.

The rainfall could bring temporary relief from humid conditions but may also affect traffic movement on major roads.

Ghaziabad weather forecast

Ghaziabad is likely to see similar weather conditions, with cloudy skies and recurring spells of rain through July 9.

Thunderstorms and gusty winds are expected to accompany some of the rain events. Residents should remain alert for sudden weather changes, especially during late afternoon and evening hours.

Why rainfall is increasing in North India

The IMD has indicated that monsoon conditions are becoming more active across large parts of northwestern India.

As monsoon winds strengthen and moisture-laden air continues to flow into the region, rainfall activity is expected to increase not only over Delhi-NCR but also across several neighbouring states.

This active monsoon phase is likely to support widespread rainfall across parts of north India over the next few days.

Delhi-NCR weather outlook till July 9

The overall weather pattern points towards a wet week for Delhi, Noida, Gurugram and Ghaziabad.

Residents can expect:

  • Cloudy skies on most days
  • Light to moderate rainfall
  • Thunderstorm activity
  • Wind speeds of 30-40 kmph
  • Gusts reaching 50-60 kmph during storms
  • Increased rainfall activity from July 6 onward

With showers expected to continue until at least July 9, weather officials have advised residents to monitor local forecasts and prepare for changing weather conditions across the Delhi-NCR region.
