Delhi: No bid received for Raisina Bengali School

NEW DELHI: An e-auction of Raisina Bengali School that was supposed to take place on Friday failed because no bids were received.

Earlier, the debt recovery tribunal (DRT) had directed that the school in South Delhi’s Chittaranjan Park would go under the hammer as its management had failed to repay a debt amounting to Rs 8 crore.

Chitra Maji, a member of the governing body, said, “The DRT has concluded hearing arguments on merit on the objection against the auction filed by the school and has reserved its order on the same for January 31. There is also a matter pending at the Delhi high court. So for now, the auction will not be taking place.”

Petitions were filed before the high court by a few students of the school and also NGO Justice for All, against the auction of the school. The counsel appearing for ASREC said that while the auction could not take place on the scheduled date as no bids were received, a separate sale notice would be issued but “not immediately. ”

There are around 900 students studying in the senior section of the school, the property of which was supposed to be auctioned due to default in payment of the loan taken in 2005.
