NEW DELHI: With the arrival of monsoon, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) have banned road cutting in their areas.
The NDMC ban, which will stay in force from July 1 to September 30, will apply to all essential utilities, except for emergency work with prior approval, the order stated. MCD has issued a similar order that will continue till September 15.
NDMC has clarified that if any road cutting work is already under progress, it will be neatly levelled, dressed and restored to avoid any inconvenience to the public. “The decision to ban road cutting has been taken to minimise chances of untoward incidents and inconvenience to the public,” stated the order.
An MCD official said all executing agencies had been asked “to ensure that they not only level the dug-up area properly, but also keep a watch because sometimes such an area settles down after rain and may lead to accidents”. MCD’s maintenance department is also keeping a watch in their zones. Any agency violating the order can be fined or may lose the permission for its work, he added.
“In case of emergency, other agencies can contact us for special permission and carry the work after barricading the area, installing signage and taking other precautionary measures,” said the official.
