Delhi-NCR Weather Today: Will it rain in the national capital, Gurgaon, Noida and Ghaziabad?

Delhi-NCR Weather Forecast: After a humid stretch of heat that pushed Delhi to its hottest July day in two years earlier this week, the capital and its neighbouring cities are waking up to overcast skies on Saturday, July 18, but anyone hoping for a proper downpour to break the humidity may be disappointed for another day or two.

Delhi Weather Today

Delhi is currently cloudy with the temperature hovering around 33°C, and the city is expected to peak near 37°C by afternoon. The India Meteorological Department's local forecast, issued Friday evening, calls for a generally cloudy sky with a spell of very light to light rain at isolated places, most likely towards the morning or forenoon, accompanied by gusty winds of 20-30 kmph that could touch 40 kmph in bursts. The rest of the day is expected to stay hot and humid in patches rather than genuinely wet — the chance of rain today works out to a modest 10 percent.

Gurgaon, Noida, Ghaziabad Weather Today

Gurugram is running slightly warmer, currently at around 34°C and cloudy, with today's high expected close to 38°C and a similarly low 10 percent rain probability. Noida mirrors Delhi closely, cloudy, around 33°C now, heading towards a high near 37°C, again with only a 10 percent chance of showers. Ghaziabad is a touch cooler at present, close to 33°C, with a high expected around 36°C and the same low rain odds.

In short, don't cancel outdoor plans expecting rain to spoil them, but don't leave the umbrella too far away either, given the isolated shower risk flagged for the morning hours.

Delhi NCR Weather: Why it's been so hot and dry

This dry, sticky spell isn't coming out of nowhere. Delhi recorded its hottest July day in two years earlier this week, with the mercury touching 39.2°C, nearly 4 degrees above the seasonal normal of around 35°C for this time of July. The heat index, or "real-feel" temperature, climbed even further, touching close to 48°C during the peak afternoon hours as humidity compounded the actual air temperature.

A stretch of dry westerly winds, combined with moisture-laden southwesterly flow from the Arabian Sea at lower levels, has kept the air heavy and humid without triggering the kind of organised rain system that actually cools things down. For a proper spell of rain, meteorologists say the region needs the monsoon trough, currently sitting closer to the Himalayan foothills, to swing back down towards Delhi.

When it will rain in Delhi-NCR?

Sunday, July 19, should see rain chances edge up modestly across the region, with Delhi's probability rising to around 35 percent and highs easing slightly to near 34°C.

The bigger shift arrives on Monday, July 20, when the outlook turns noticeably wetter and cooler across the board. Delhi's rain chance jumps to around 65 percent with the high dropping sharply to near 29°C, Noida follows an almost identical trajectory, Ghaziabad's rain probability climbs to roughly 70 percent, and Gurugram isn't far behind at about 60 percent. That kind of temperature drop, nearly 8 degrees lower than Saturday's peak, points to a genuine spell of monsoon activity moving through rather than a passing shower.

The wetter pattern looks set to hold into the middle of next week, with rain chances staying in the 50-60 percent range across all four cities through Tuesday and Wednesday, alongside daytime highs settling into the more comfortable high-20s to low-30s range.

Delhi NCR Rain Advisory For Residents

  • Carry a light umbrella or raincoat for the morning commute today, given the isolated shower risk, even though a citywide downpour looks unlikely.
  • Stay hydrated and avoid prolonged sun exposure during the afternoon, when the heat index will likely feel considerably hotter than the actual temperature.
  • From Monday onward, commuters in low-lying stretches of Gurugram, Noida and parts of the capital should factor in extra travel time, as heavier rain typically brings waterlogging to familiar chokepoints.
  • Keep an eye on official IMD updates rather than informal forecasts, since isolated showers can be highly localised, one part of the city may stay bone dry while another gets a proper wetting.
