NEW DELHI: The central government panel on air quality, CAQM, has constituted an expert group to examine the public suggestions it had received before finalising a policy to curb air pollution in NCR.
The Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR and Adjoining Areas (CAQM), in an order dated January 7, stated that it had formed a nine-member expert group headed by P Raghavendra, chairman, Haryana State Pollution Control Board. The group also has experts from CAQM, IIT-Kanpur, Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Centre for Science and Environment, Central Pollution Control Board, Maulana Azad Medical College and Council for Energy Environment and Water.
The expert group, CAQM stated, will examine the suggestions it received from public and thereby work on a policy to finalise a “permanent solution” for the pollution woes of NCR.
The step was taken following directions from the Supreme Court, which on December 16 asked CAQM to consider the public suggestions, following which CAQM on December 24, 2021 invited suggestions.
