Delhi Metro’s Line 7 (between Mukundpur– Shiv Vihar) will not only be the longest line on the network, but will also have the longest distance ever between two stations — 4.5km.
The average distance between two Metro stations at present is 2km that is usually covered by a train in 90 seconds.
On the Mukundpur-Shiv Vihar (Pink Line), commuters will have to travel non-stop for at least six minutes to cover a distance of 4.5km between Hazrat Nizamuddin and Mayur Vihar stations

During transit, DMRC officials said, the train is likely to attain its maximum speed and will also cross the Yamuna River at one point via a 602.8 metre-long bridge.
The DMRC at present crosses the Yamuna at two locations (between Shastri Park- Kashmere Gate and between Yamuna Bank – Indraprastha). Trial runs are on for a third Yamuna crossing between Kalindi Kunj-Okhla Bird Sanctuary stations.
Once constructed, the Pink Line too will cross the Yamuna between Hazrat Nizamuddin and Mayur Vihar stations and will be the Metro’s longest Yamuna crossing.
“The 602.8 meter bridge on Yamuna is the longest so far. Hazrat Nizamuddin is an underground station and Mayur Vihar station is elevated. The ramp starts after the Nizamuddin metro station. Alignment beyond Hazrat Nizamuddin station will ramp up and attain elevated position. It will cross the outer ring road and will run eastward to the Yamuna River. It will cross the Yamuna between Nizamuddin and DND road bridges,” said a DMRC official.

Mayur Vihar station on the Dwarka-Noida Blue line will be integrated with Mayur Vihar station of Mukundpur-Yamuna Vihar corridor of the proposed Pink Line in Phase III. The new station will be constructed above the existing Mayur Vihar station. According to DMRC, a ventilation shaft is required between two underground stations if the distance is more than 2 km.
The Mukundpur-Shiv Vihar line, interestingly, will also connect all six lines of DMRC. Comprising 10 interchange stations, the line is expected to take load off from existing interchange stations, especially Rajiv Chowk. “The line is constructed in a way that it will decongest all the other lines. A major benefit is that there are 10 interchange stations. Starting from north Delhi, the line with come to northeast via west, south and east Delhi,” said a DMRC official.
According to DMRC, the crisscrossing of Phase-3 lines with the existing lines will lead to emergence of several interchange stations, thus, shortening the distance between two parts of the city by up to 15km.

Currently, there are nine interchange stations on the Metro network — Rajiv Chowk, Kashmere Gate, Central Secretariat, Inderlok, Ashok Park Main, Yamuna Bank, Dwarka Sec 21, New Delhi and Kirti Nagar. Once the Pink Line is operational by 2016, the there will be 10 more interchange stations.
“Starting from Mukundpur (Majlis Park), the line will connect with the Samaipur Badli- HUDA city center line at Azadpur and INA, Rithala-Kashmere Gate line at Shakurpur and Welcome-Dwarka- Noida/Vaishali line at Rajouri Garden, Mayur Vihar-I and Anand Vihar, Airport line at Dhaula Kuan and ITO-Faridabad line at Lajpat Nagar. This U-shaped line will cover entire Delhi,” the official added.
