Delhi Metro introduces free WiFi service at Yellow Line stations

NEW DELHI: Commuters travelling by Delhi Metro's Yellow Line, which connects north Delhi to Gurugram, can now use free high-speed WiFi service at all stations of the corridor.

Anuj Dayal, executive director (corporate communication), Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said the service has been launched on all 37 stations of the Yellow Line (connecting HUDA City Centre-Samaypur Badli) from Sunday.

The corridor, DMRC's busiest, runs mostly underground through one of the most congested parts of Delhi covering outer Delhi, north Delhi, central Delhi & south Delhi and finally Gurugram.

"More than 330 access points have been installed at these 37 stations to provide uninterrupted internet service to the commuters. This high-speed free WiFi service will prove to be a boon to students travelling to and from North Delhi Campus of Delhi University," Dayal said.

He added passengers will be able to use standard internet applications like Email, Facebook, Google Search, WhatsApp, video and audio calls etc. by logging into network ID “OUI DMRC FREE WiFi ”.

To access the service, at first the users have to select "OUI DMRC FREE WIFI " on their phone, then enter their phone number and email ID to get OTP by SMS and then enter the OTP, after that accept terms and conditions and finally tap connect button.

"OUI DMRC free high-speed WiFi connectivity is already available on all stations of the Blue Line and Airport Express Line," he further said.

The Blue Line (connecting Dwarka Sector 21 to Noida Electronic City/Vaishali) consists of 50 metro stations, where over 400 access points are placed by DMRC to provide uninterrupted internet access. The Airport Express Line (connecting New Delhi Railway Station to Dwarka Sector 21, linking Indira Gandhi International Airport) which has six stations, has been provided with over 50 access points.

With the launch of the service in Yellow Line from Sunday, free WiFi is now available at 94 stations of the Delhi Metro Network.

"Apart from providing free WiFi at the metro stations across its network, DMRC, in association with Techno Sat Comm is striving to introduce this facility inside metro trains as well in an year’s time from here on," Dayal said, adding that upgrading and installing the desired access points is quite a challenging task in already operational trains.

DMRC had introduced free WiFi service in the trains of Airport Express Line on trial basis, which were suspended due to Covid induced constraints in 2020 and are now in the process of being restored within next 10-15 days time, the executive director said.

"One may contact help line number 9541693693 if facing any issues in accessing free WiFi service at metro stations on all these lines," the director added.
