Delhi: IFS officer arrested on rape charge after ‘false promise of marriage’

NEW DELHI: Delhi Police has arrested a Jharkhand-cadre Indian Forest Service officer for allegedly raping a girl on the pretext of marriage. The accused has been identified as Anshuman Rajhansh, a 2020-batch officer.

According to police, the suspect was arrested from Sealdah area in West Bengal. An FIR was lodged against the officer on May 15 at Rajendra Nagar police station in central Delhi on the complaint of a woman.

The accused, who belongs to Deogarh district in Jharkhand, trained at the Indian Forest Academy Institute after which he was posted in Chaibasa. Police said an arrest warrant was issued against him as he didn't join the investigation.

In her complaint, the woman, a native of Maharashtra, claimed that she and the accused became friends in 2017 while preparing for the Civil Services Examination. She alleged that Rajhansh had promised to marry her and made physical relations. In 2018, the accused was selected for the Indian Railway Traffic Service.

However, he allegedly refused to marry her despite the promise, the woman claimed. The accused had promised that he would marry her if he got a good rank in the exam, the woman said in her complaint. She further said that the accused even took ‘feras’ with her in a temple but refused to get photographed and started avoiding her.
