Delhi govt to launch wholesale shopping expo

NEW DELHI: The Delhi government will launch a Wholesale Shopping Expo to promote and strengthen the wholesale trade sector in the capital.

The Expo, officials said, will provide an identity to the wholesale markets, give a boost to their businesses and contribute significantly to the economy of Delhi by providing employment to a large population. The idea of the Expo came up in a meeting of deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia with the representatives of major wholesale markets such as Nehru Place, Naya Bazar and Gandhi Nagar, among others.

In a statement, Sisodia said: “To bring these markets within the reach of their consumers across the world and boost their businesses, the Kejriwal government will organise a Delhi Wholesale Shopping Festival.”

“All major wholesale markets will be invited to participate in the expo. Extensive advertising and marketing campaigns will be done across the globe to attract buyers and promote the business of wholesalers. A range of incentives will be offered including tax refunds and rebates on sales taking place during the Expo and other financial incentives to make it lucrative for traders,” he added.
