Delhi Golf Club lessee of L&DO, says ministry

NEW DELHI: The government in 2012 had extended the temporary lease of the 179 acre land to Delhi Golf Club (DGC) till 2050, the housing and urban affairs ministry informed the Rajya Sabha.

It said the lease was extended for 30 years, eight years prior to completion of earlier lease period before the need for its renewal arose.

In a written reply, the ministry said DGC is the lessee of Land and Development Office and 179 acres is under the possession of the club since November 8, 1963. Prior to 1963, the DGC used to be a Municipal Course established in the early 1930s and became a corporate entity in February 1950.

It said the allotment letter was issued on April 23, 1968 to the DGC on temporary lease basis which was extended from time to time. The temporary lease was executed on August 5, 1996 for 20 years, from January 1991 to December 2010. “It could not get registered under Indian Registration Act, so Confirmation and Amendment Deed was executed on June 21, 2002.

The said lease was extended for 10 years from January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2020. The government renewed the temporary lease in 2012 itself for 30 years till 2050, eight years prior to completion of lease period before the need for its renewal arose,” the ministry said.
