NEW DELHI: Four new pedestrian underpasses are expected to be readied this year as the Public Works Department projects that were approved before the pandemic, have picked up the pace, officials said.
Between Wazirabad and Jagatpur in Gandhi Nagar, the project of the subway was approved with two half underpasses. While the underpasses are under construction between Burari and Wazirabad on the Outer Ring Road, the Gandhi Nagar subway has apparently proven useful for kids studying at the many coaching institutes in the area.
The road is one of the busiest and widest in the city and thus, it’s prone to accidents. The underpasses will come as a relief to the commuters.
PWD has also intensified the pace of work at the pedestrian underpass between East Kidwai Nagar and the Delhi Haat market at INA, according to officials. It is likely to be completed by August-end, they said. Its earlier deadline was August 2021 but the progress slowed due to the Covid-induced lockdown.
After the construction of the subway in front of entry number four of the East Kidwai Nagar, the road has been in better condition. The divider that was dug up during the process has now been patched.
In Azadpur near Maharishi Valmiki temple, PWD is constructing a pedestrian subway. Its design has been finalised but the work is yet to start.
All these projects were given approval in the pre-Covid period but were delayed due to the restrictions.
