Delhi: Fake call centre busted in Sagarpur, 15 arrested

NEW DELHI: At least 15 people, including nine women, were arrested after police busted a fake call centre in South West Delhi's Sagarpur area.

The racket allegedly duped people on the pretext of providing business loans.

Three people were the masterminds of the racket, police said. "We have arrested two kingpins, Prince and Rahul. The other accused is still absconding," an officer said.

According to police, they got the information that a fake call centre was running in the Sagarpur area. The Anti-Auto Theft Squad (AATS) team under the supervision of DCP (South West) Gaurav Sharma and ACP (operations) Abhinendra Jain raided the place and 15 people were nabbed.

DCP Sharma said that Prince had earlier worked at a call centre in Janakpuri where he along with other associates, defrauded people on the pretext of offering personal loans.

"After learning all tricks of the loan and insurance process, Prince along with Rahul and one other associate opened a fake call centre and hired calling agents," police said.

Another accused Rahul worked as a munshi at Dwarka court and later left the job. Thereafter, he started working as a tele caller at a call centre and worked for nearly three years. In 2020, due to Covid he lost his job and got in touch with his school friend Ekant and started working at a call centre where he met Prince.

Police added that one of the accused used to gather data of common people and give it to other associates. The female and male callers made calls to unsuspecting people to offer them loans from Bajaj Finserv.

"They used to send fake loan approval letters to applicants. These fraudsters would ask them (victims) to pay Rs 10,000 as insurance of loan sanctioned and 2-3 per cent for file and processing charges," the officer further said. Police said victims transferred the money into accounts of these fraudsters and were duped.
