NEW DELHI: Defending his deputy, Manish Sisodia, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday said the case recommended by lieutenant governor VK Saxena for a CBI investigation was "fake", reports Atul Mathur.
"Manish Sisodia is an extremely honest deshbhakt (patriot). The case made against him is completely false and bogus and there's not an ounce of truth in it," said the chief minister, addressing a digital press conference.
The CM said he was told about Sisodia's possible arrest a few months back: "I was told that they (BJP) wanted to arrest him and were looking for a fake case to frame him."
It’s a new trend in our country to target a person first and then make a fake case against him. They will put Sisodia in jail for a few months and he will come out. The court will even reprimand them for making a fake case against him,” Kejriwal said. Reacting to the recommendation of a CBI inquiry against his department, Sisodia tweeted: “PM Modi is afraid of CM Arvind Kejriwal.
People have become disillusioned with PM Modi. Now the country has hope only in CM Arvind Kejriwal. As AAP’s influence grows across the country, there will be many more false cases. But now no jail can stop CM Arvind Kejriwal and AAP. The future belongs to AAP, the future belongs to India.” Kejriwal said little work had been done by successive governments in the country to improve the condition of government schools and Sisodia “worked hard day and night” to make Delhi’s government schools the best. “No corrupt person would go out early every morning to inspect schools for ensuring they provided good quality education to the children of all strata of society,” he said. Calling Sisodia and other party leaders “staunchly honest”, Kejriwal said he and his ministers and MLAs didn’t fear going to jail.
“Tum log (BJP) Savarkar ki aulad ho jisne angrezon se maafi maangi, hum Bhagat Singh ki aulaad hain jo phansi pe latak gaye. Hum jail se nahi darte (You are the offspring of Savarkar who apologised to the British rulers, we are the offspring of Bhagat Singh who was hanged to death. We don’t fear jail),” the AAP national convener said.
Kejriwal said the BJP was targeting AAP because the latter is an honest party and the former was trying to portray it “as corrupt as them”. He said “they are slinging mud at us by making false cases to show that we are as corrupt as them but the world is not going to believe them.” He added that the BJP was especially worried after the party’s victory in the Punjab polls. Kejriwal said the cases against his ministers and MLAs were an attempt to scuttle the party’s growth. “Since we won the Punjab election, there is an AAP wave everywhere. AAP is expanding all over the country and has become a ray of hope for the people,” he said.
“No one can stop an idea whose time has come; AAP's time has come,” he added. The chief minister also alleged that attempts were being made to stop the development work being done by the AAP government, especially in education and health. “Revolutionary work has been done in these two sectors. That is why they targeted (former) health minister Satyendar Jain first and now they are after Sisodia,” Kejriwal claimed. Emphasising that the AAP leaders were not afraid of going to jail, the chief minister said his party leaders have been to jail several times and were “unfazed by their (BJP’s) tactics”
