Delhi: CUET score tied? Class XII results to be tie-breaker

NEW DELHI: The first edition of CUET-UG 2020 for admission to UG courses gets under way on Friday across 500 cities in India and 10 abroad. Nearly 15 lakh candidates have registered to study in 90 educational institutions.

Senior officials of Delhi University (DU) on Thursday said that results of Class XII board examinations will be the tie-breaker in the event that two students get the same score in the common university entrance examination (CUET).

Officials, however, added that the possibility of scores being the exact same is "rare."

Vikas Gupta, DU registrar, said, "It is very difficult for two exact CUET scores to come as the marks will be in percentile. In such cases, the chances of the scores being the exact same are rare. However, because there are lakhs of students, in case there is a tie, we are thinking of using the Class XII board examination results as a tie-breaker."

"Like previous years, other kinds of tie-breaker options will also be present this year," Gupta added. Many students, however, raised concerns on social media stating that it was declared earlier that the Class XII board results will not have any weightage.

For the first time, admissions at DU are set to be based on CUET scores, which is scheduled to begin on Friday. With the cutoff marks for various colleges under the university soaring each year during merit-based admissions, the university had adopted CUET.
