The case involves two stray dogs, Kaddu and Brownie, who allegedly went missing more than a month ago after being illegally relocated from Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 of the airport. The complaint was filed by Rashim Sharma, an airport feeder who has been actively pursuing the matter.
Speaking to PTI, Sharma said the court has taken cognisance of the issue and expressed serious concern over the handling of the investigation. She highlighted that despite court directions seeking detailed status reports, authorities submitted only partial information regarding Kaddu, while no report was filed for Brownie.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Pranav Joshi of Patiala House Courts, in his observations, noted significant lapses in the probe. He remarked that the police failed to make meaningful progress in identifying the dogs’ whereabouts or determining the involvement of any suspects. The court also pointed out that although CCTV footage captured an individual luring a dog into a vehicle, investigators did not draw any clear conclusions from the evidence.
Criticizing the approach of the investigating officer, the court observed that instead of focusing on potential perpetrators, the inquiry disproportionately targeted the complainant. It further noted that basic details such as vaccination and sterilisation records of the dogs were not collected, despite being easily accessible.
Calling attention to these gaps, the court emphasized the need for a more thorough and responsible investigation. The matter is now scheduled for further hearing on May 11.
