Delhi: Conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar shifted to another jail for trying to bribe prison staff

NEW DELHI: High-profile conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar has been shifted to another jail after he tried to bribe a prison staffer.

Confirming the development, Sandeep Goel, DG (Tihar), said Chandrashekhar have been shifted to jail number four. “We received information that the inmate tried to bribe one of the staff of jail number four where he was lodged,” he said.

The investigation has revealed that Rs 1.25 lakh was allegedly transferred by him into the bank account of another inmate’s brother. “He did not send the money directly to the source. Instead of that, he transferred the money to an inmate’s brother account. We are probing the money trail,” the officer said.

According to a prison officer, an enquiry conducted and have transferred three staff from the jail.

Last year, from the confines of Asia’s maximum security prison, master comman Sukesh managed to make Rs 200 crore from the family of former Ranbaxy promoters. The chargesheets by Enforcement Directorate and Delhi Police show the clout which the man had in Tihar and Rohini jails.

With help from his girlfriend Leena Maria Paul, Sukesh pulled off jobs like laundering over Rs 100 crores through Hawala, land procurement and web series production.

Delhi Police last year filed a chargesheet against Chandrasekhar, Paul and other associates under MCOCA and IPC detailing how Sukesh carried out the biggest-ever extortion bid in Delhi — which was first reported by TOI — and how he was busted.
