Delhi: Citizen lounges to offer better services

NEW DELHI: To give people visiting its Suvidha Kendras a better experience, New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has decided to redevelop them into Palika Citizen Lounges.

At these centres, there will be a single point of physical contact with the citizens, fully considering Covid-related requirements.

To begin with, the existing Suvidha Kendra at Shahid Bhagat Singh Place will be upgraded as the first Palika Citizen Lounge in the financial year 2022-23. The NDMC chairman also mentioned the project in his budget speech on Friday.

NDMC vice-chairman Satish Upadhayay said that most service centres are old structures and work conventionally. "Now that our command and control centre is fully operational and updates of all civic services are gathered here, it would be easier for us to operate these Suvidha Kendra and help citizens access all facilities. We will ensure that they are served in a time-bound manner and updated about their inquiries through messages," he said

The project also includes upgrading the existing infrastructure facilities at these centres, such as better washrooms with a child feeding area, sitting lounges and waiting areas.

Suvidha Kendras are centres where facilities related to death and birth certificates, water and metre connection and disconnection, electric load sanctioning, barat ghar or community hall booking, remission certificates are available.
