NEW DELHI. Delhi BJP chief Adesh Gupta, leader of opposition in Delhi assembly Ramvir Singh Bidhuri and all BJP MLAs staged a dharna outside CM Arvind Kejriwal's residence on Monday to put pressure on the Aam Aadmi Party government to slash value-added tax by Rs 10 per liter each on petrol and diesel. It will make petrol and diesel cheaper and bring relief to the people.
Bidhuri announced that BJP MLAs will stage a dharna every day outside Kejriwal’s residence till the AAP government does not announce VAT cut on fuel.
The Central government has recently cut excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 5 and Rs10, respectively, per litre. BJP MLAs Vijender Gupta, Mohan Singh Bisht, Omprakash Sharma, Jitendra Mahajan, Anil Bajpai, Abhay Verma, and Ajay Mahawar joined the dharna. The BJP MLAs said that the Central government's move to cut excise duty has brought relief to people.
"Now it is the turn of the state governments, and more than two dozen state governments have already given relief to the public by cutting down VAT, but the Delhi government is running away from its moral responsibility,” Gupta said.
Deputy CM Manish Sisodia recently stated that the AAP government is looking into steps it can take to provide more relief to the people. He, however, demanded that the Central government should reduce the prices of petrol and diesel by at least Rs 15 per litre because the state governments have limited resources.
