NEW DELHI: BJP MP Gautam Gambhir on Sunday took stock of the development works being done at Dr Hedgewar Park in East Delhi's Mandawali. The place is also known as Talab Park.
The BJP leader released Rs 1.80 crore from his MP fund for the park.
According to the corporation officials, a pond is being prepared in one corner of the park, swings for children in the other corner and badminton and basketball courts for the youth in the third corner.
In another part, greenery will be set up for picnics for the elderly and women. Excavation has also been done for the pond. A sewage treatment plant has been installed for the water system.
Spread over 7.2 acres, the Hedgewar Park was in bad shape since 15 years. Corporation officials said that there used to be a pond at the place years ago, but later it dried up.
The picnic spot is being rejuvenated on the initiative of Gautam Gambhir.
The park was given to the corporation from DDA in 1989. After this, it was used for social programs and election rallies. Due to paucity of funds, Eastern Corporation was not able to beautify it.
Gautam Gambhir said: "We have not made false promises but have worked on the ground, we do not believe in inaugurating but believe in working. This park of Mandawali will be for the residents of this place in the coming times. The deputy chief minister of Delhi also comes from same area, but he never paid any attention to the development of this area. He only does the inauguration, not the work. The chief minister of Delhi also constantly spends the money earned by the people of Delhi in his advertisement."
