NEW DELHI: “For 12 years, we have been trying to lead a normal life and put the past behind us. Now, the horror has returned to haunt us again in such a manner that we keep ourselves locked inside our homes,” said Amit Singh (40), Kuldeep Singh’s elder brother.
Kuldeep and his wife Monika were allegedly killed by Ankit Choudhary and his associates in June 2010. The case is pending trial. While the family’s security has been increased, fear is constantly on their minds.
“I have stopped sending my children to school. Our security has been increased, but when Ankit can escape from police custody deployed with him 24x7, he can harm us too. My aged parents, wife and two children reside in Wazirpur village. Our house is not very far from Ankit’s,” said Amit.
Kuldeep married Monika in a temple in 2006. “We lived in the same village. After they got married, Monika’s family told them to move out of the village. I politely conveyed the same to the couple. They left and started living in different parts of the city. Four years later, in 2010, Monika’s family said it was fine for them to shift to Ashok Vihar if they liked. The couple soon shifted and met a fatal end,” said Amit.
“It’s been around 12 years and we are still waiting for justice. The chargesheet, evidence and all aspects of the case have been worked on well by police. Despite that, the case is in the trial stage in 2022. My parents are hoping that before they leave this world, they can see the killers of his son and his wife punished for their crime,” Amit added.
Amit further stated, “I did not fear anything when the murder took place as we all were residents of the same village. It was only when a family member of Monika threatened me that I approached the court to provide us security.”
The 40-year-old stated that Choudhary’s surety was furnished by Chaman Kashyap, who was facing trial in a murder case. “How can a criminal facing trial for an offence under IPC Section 302 be a surety in court for interim bail? Why didn’t the public prosecutor oppose this? Why did police let Ankit flee?” he asked.
