Dele Alli would be ‘fantastic’ signing for PSG despite struggle for game time at Tottenham, says Darren Bent

Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Darren Bent believes current Spurs midfielder Dele Alli would be well-suited to a move to Paris Saint-Germain.

The attacking midfielder has been left out of Jose Mourinho’s squad for the past two games and has struggled for form and fitness across much of the past two years, leading to links with the French club recently.

While Mourinho has said it’s simply a matter of having too many players and not enough spaces in the matchday squad, Bent believes it goes deeper than that and a transfer to Ligue 1 would benefit Dele.

“It would be superb for him. We know the French league is not as competitive as the Premier League," Bent told talkSPORT.

“But when you go and play with players like [Kylian] Mbappe, Neymar, [Marco] Verratti, it’s automatically going to lift his levels and make him a better player.

“A change of scenery could do him the world of good and going to that club, he’d be fantastic there.”

While Spurs face a series of qualifiers to enter the Europa League group stage, PSG reached the Champions League final last month as well as retaining the curtailed French league title.

Bent also suggested that it was a “farce” Mourinho couldn’t find a spot for the 24-year-old in the squad and believes the manager doesn’t “trust” him as much as others.

“Looking at Spurs’ squad, you cannot tell me that Dele Alli isn’t better than Harry Winks, [Eric] Lamela, even [Moussa] Sissoko.

“You know how Mourinho wants you – hard-working, up and down – and that’s not really Dele Alli’s game."
