Dele Alli struck by plastic bottle before Tottenham star goads Arsenal fans with '2-0' sign

Tottenham star Dele Alli was struck on the head by a plastic bottle thrown by Arsenal fans during the rivals' EFL Cup clash at Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night.

Dele Alli, who scored Tottenham's second goal to put Spurs 2-0 up in the quarter-final clash in north London, was seen clutching his head after the incident by the touchline close to Arsenal supporters in the 73rd minute.

The Spurs attacker was visibly angry following the incident, shouting at referee Jonathan Moss for action to be taken before turning to the Arsenal fans and making a '2-0' sign with his hands in reference to the scoreline at the time.

Alli had earlier extended Spurs' advantage over fierce north London rivals Arsenal with a superb effort past Petr Cech, with Harry Kane's perfectly executed pass over the top setting the youngster free to finish with the outside of his boot to double Spurs' advantage.

"It made the goal a little bit sweeter," he told Sky Sports.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino said he expected Arsenal to deal with the offending fan.

"Luckily, it wasn't a big issue," he told reporters. "When we play the derby we hate each other, in a good way, but that was in a bad way when you want to damage someone.

"I can't talk in general because I respect Arsenal fans but one person made a stupid mistake. But I expect Arsenal take some responsibility and through the cameras can identify.

"It wasn't a problem but could have been a big issue."
