Dele Alli continues to have an indifferent campaign and this has led to clear frustration which he showed following his substitution at Watford.
Tottenham endured a difficult afternoon at Vicarage Road as they were held to a 0-0 draw which could have been worse had Paulo Gazzaniga not saved Troy Deeney's second-half spot-kick.
Alli was once the darling of Spurs having scored ten and then 18 league goals during the 2015/16 and 2016/17 campaigns respectively, but injuries and poor form have reduced his impact in recent seasons.
The 23-year-old was not at his best at Watford before he was taken off the field in the 73rd minute as Christian Eriksen was brought on, though the midfielder was far from the biggest issue as Tottenham struggled to gain a point.
But Mourinho saw fit to replace the England international, who cut a disconsolate figure as he provided a little strop in the process of taking his seat on the substitutes bench.
Mourinho arrived at Tottenham last November and one of his first aims was to improve the midfielder's form.
Alli scored four goals in six league matches under Mourinho from late November until the Boxing Day win over Brighton but he has now not found the back of the net for the last four league games.
Spurs have also not scored in three consecutive league matches but they did pick up their first clean sheet in seven outings this afternoon.
