Dele Alli has endured a frustrating season at Tottenham Hotspur so far.
Withdrawn at half-time in the 1-0 loss against Everton on the opening weekend of the new campaign, opportunities have been limited for the attacking midfielder ever since.
Alli's last Premier League appearance was as a second-half substitute in the 6-1 thrashing of Manchester United at Old Trafford before last month's international break.
In fact, the 24-year-old has not even made the Premier League matchday squad for each of Tottenham's last four games, with him being restricted to cameo appearances in the Europa League.
After featuring for the final half-hour in the 3-0 win over LASK on matchday one in the group stage, he was once again taken off at half-time the following week at Royal Antwerp.
It's safe to say that Alli is at a crossroads regarding his career.
Not only has he fallen out of favour under Jose Mourinho at club level, but he's also slipped down the pecking order with England and needs to be playing regularly ahead of next summer's European Championships.
As a result, the midfielder has been linked with a move away from Tottenham in the January transfer window.
Alli has been backed to seal a sensational £30m move to Manchester United, should Mauricio Pochettino be appointed as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's replacement.
Amid all the transfer speculation and not making the Spurs squad against West Brom at the weekend, Alli has taken to social media and shared a rather cryptic four-word message.
"Make improvements, not excuses," he wrote on Instagram.
It remains to be seen exactly what Alli means with this message.
But vowing to make improvements could be viewed as him sending a message to Mourinho about fighting to save his career in north London.
Alli will have the chance to impress the Spurs head coach ahead of the game against Manchester City a week on Saturday as he is one of a limited number of players at Hotspur Way during the international break.
