Dele Alli 'left out of Tottenham squad for Chelsea clash' ahead of transfer deadline

Dele Alli has reportedly been left out of Tottenham's squad for their Carabao Cup clash against Chelsea this evening.

Alli continues to be linked with a move away from Spurs ahead of Monday's transfer deadline having scarcely featured so far this season.

He started the first game of the Premier League season against Everton but was hooked at half-time, and his only other appearance was as a substitute against Shkendija in the Europa League.

Alli had been due to play against Leyton Orient in the third round of the Carabao Cup last week before the tie was cancelled amid a Covid-19 outbreak at Brisbane Road.

And after missing the draw against Newcastle on Sunday, Alli had been expected to feature against Chelsea.

But, according to The Telegraph, that will not be the case, as the uncertainty surrounding the England midfielder's future gathers pace.

Mourinho is set to rotate his squad with Spurs due to play Maccabi Haifa in a Europa League play-off on Thursday.

The Tottenham boss has already admitted that game is his priority rather then the fixture against their London rivals tonight.

“What would you do in my position? I would like to fight for the Carabao but I don’t think I can,” he said.

“We have a game on Thursday that gives us not as much money as the Champions League, but the group phase of the Europa League gives us a certain amount that for a club like us is very important.

“It’s a competition with a possible group phase that gives us a good chance to go through to the next knockout stage, so this game on Thursday is very important for us.”

Paris Saint-Germain had shown initial interest in Alli and explored the possibility of a season-long loan deal, but the agreement was seemingly too difficult to strike.

The 24-year-old was not included in the last England squad and needs to be playing regular football if he has any hopes of playing in next year's rescheduled European Championships.
